- Who can apply?
This Open Call is open to all applicants. There are no restrictions on the nationality, age, or education of applicants. If you are under the age of 18, you must confirm that your parent or guardian has consented to your participation in this application process in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.
- I cannot pay by paypal - is there an alternative method of payment?
If you are experiencing problems with the Paypal link from our website and you have an account with Paypal you can send us a direct Paypal payment to info@eva.ie. Otherwise we can issue you an invoice to pay by bank transfer. If you would like an invoice, or you are making a direct payment, please contact us opencall2018@eva.ie
- I am receiving an error message, can you help?
Please check all fields marked with an asterisk are populated and that the files are the correct type and within the size limit. There are guides underneath each field you are filling for file types and sizes.
- Can I make more than 1 proposal?
A maximum of 1 proposal can be made per individual artist or artist group.
- Is it possible to make applications as a group of artists?
Yes, EVA International accepts collaborative applications and applications from artist groups. Please provide contact details for the person who will act as the primary contact for the group and provide details of the collaboration in Step 3 of the proposal.
- Can I submit two proposals, one as individual and the other as duo or group?
Yes, that is no problem. You will need to submit two separate applications one as an individual artist with your individual work and one as the duo or group with the associated work.
- Can I propose a group show?
Yes, EVA International accepts group show proposals. Please provide contact details for the person who will act as the primary contact for the group and provide details of the participating artists in Step 3 of the proposal.
- Can I submit work in any medium?
Yes, EVA International accepts proposals for work in any medium. This includes: drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, mixed-media, photography, film, video, sound, new media, performance, dance, design, printmaking, architecture, street art, etc.
- Can I propose to make site-specific work?
Yes, you can propose to make work in relation to a specific site. EVA International will be working with various spaces across Limerick City including gallery, non-gallery, indoor and outdoor spaces and many of them will be decided upon in relation to the selected works. If you have any specific spaces or kinds of spaces in mind please describe as part of your submission.
- Is there a specific space where selected works will be exhibited?
EVA International's home is at Limerick City Gallery of Art but we will be working with partner organisations across the city, including both gallery and non-gallery spaces. If you have a particular location in mind please specify in your submission.
- The piece I want to submit consists of several parts, must I make more than 1 proposal?
Yes you can submit a series of paintings, a proposal is not limited to one work. To support your proposal you can upload up to five files (e.g. images) and one url. If you would like to upload more than five images you could make a PDF that contains multiple images and upload as a single file, or you could send us the url to a website that contains all the images.
- Can I submit outdoor work?
You can submit indoor, outdoor, online, static, mobile works and events. If you have a particular location in mind please specify in your submission.
- What kind of financial support will artists receive to make new works?
Selected artists will receive exhibition fees and production budgets will be provided for new projects.
- Could you give me more information about Limerick City?

- Can I propose a new work or does it have to existing?
Applications can be made either by proposal for new work, existing work or a combination of both.
- What is an artist's statement?
An artist's statement is a general introduction to an artist's practice. It can be a brief introduction to your practice ie: what medium you work in, how your work is presented, what you take your inspiration from and so on. There are some examples on our website here.
- What is an artist's CV or biography?
An artist's CV or biography is an outline of an artist's career to date. It can include details of an artist's education, past exhibition, awards, residencies, any collections the artist's work is included in and other relevant experience. There are some examples on our website here.
- Can I submit a work that has been shown elsewhere?
Yes Yes, EVA International accepts proposals for existing or new work in any medium. If existing work has been shown elsewhere please state where in your proposal.
- I have uploaded my CV and/or statement, but would like to change them, how can I do that?
You can upload an up to date version of the PDFs at stage 3 of the application. Select choose file and select the file you want to upload. The new file will replace the old file.
- Can I make a proposal in a language other than English?
Yes, we will try to accommodate applicants who want to apply in other languages. If you wish to do so, please contact us opencall2018@eva.ie.
- Is a budget required?
No this is optional.
- When will artists be notified of the selection?
Selected artists will be notified via email or telephone once the selection process is complete. Artists who have not been selected will be notified via email on or before 29 September 2017.
- Is the total word count of the proposal, together with technical and installation specs, 250 words?
Yes the proposal word count is limited to 250 words and this needs to include any relevant technical/installation spec. If selected we will seek further information on the work, including technical and installation spec, so you only need to include what you feel the curator needs to consider in the process of selecting work.
- Should the supporting materials be directly related to the proposal or can it be previous?
The supporting images can be previous works and/or directly related to the proposal. Please submit whatever materials you feel support your proposal appropriately.
- Who covers the transportation costs of the artwork for selected artists?
EVA International arrange and cover the cost of transport of works.
- Can I submit more than one work?
Yes, you can submit multiple works in one proposal.
- Is there a particular theme to EVA International 2018?
For EVA 2018, the Open Call is a call to respond to "the current state". This could be a reflection on the current state of your work, the current state of government, the current state of your family, the current state of art history, the current state of ideology, the current state of your illness, the current state of religion, or a reflection on how the state of today reminds you of the state of yesterday. Rather than a monolithic thematic exhibition, EVA 2018 wishes to establish a cosmology of exhibitions; a kaleidoscopic ecology of intertwining group shows with essayistic, retinal and bodily narratives.
- I can't move onto the next Step of the online submission process – can you help?
Check you have registered successfully (Step 1) and make sure you have filled in all the required fields marked with an * (e.g. Address, Country and Telephone in Step 2). The security code is numerical only and does not include the asterisk mark.
- I am having trouble uploading 5 images – can you help?
If you are trying to upload multiple images or files at once in your proposal and are experiencing any problems, please try uploading one image or file at a time, pressing the "Save" button after each upload. If you are still having problems please contact us
